We got out of the weird 100 degree Sunnyvale weather and went to Bonny Doon beach, where it was nice a cool at 65.

First backpacking trip of the season. There is still snow up in High Sierra, at this rate it’ll be up there until next year’s showfalls start.IMG 099.jpg

A letter to the birds

Posted in Life on July 5th, 2006

Dear birds,

I really like you. You make cute chirpy sounds in the morning and make it pleasant to wake up. You provide endless amusement clustering around the bird feeder. For that, I buy you bird seed and make sure the feeders are full.

Why, why do you repay me by eating the very first ripe tomato in my garden? I mean, I know there will be more, but this was the first one, and I’ve been waiting for it for two months now, ever since planting the seedlings! Is there not enough birdseed? Do you not like it? Even my always starving labrador knows not to eat the vegetables in my garden.

Please, I beg you, leave my tomatoes alone. They provide a much-needed source of vitamins for me, who usually subsists on crappy school cafeteria food. I promise, I’ll buy you even more bird seed. If you want, I’ll even buy you tomatoes. Just don’t eat the ones in the garden.

Thanks,

ng the hungry

P.S. If you get into that ripening corn, I going to set my dog loose in the yard. Then you won’t even get birdseed.

And since this is a photoblog, here are some pictures of the yard.
