Spring is here

Posted in Life on March 25th, 2007

S-p-ring is here. Life is skittles. And life is beer.

Ok, no pigeon poisoning, but here are some flowers from the back yard.

For the Love of Dog, Patricia McConnell

Good book on dog behaviorism. Similar material to Animals in Translation, but well written.

Culture Clash, Jean Donaldson

Posted in Books on March 11th, 2007

Book on dog behavior and training. Donaldson is the head of training at the SF SPCA and a positive reinforcement Nazi. If it’s not clicker training, you are wrong, abusive, an idiot, and in general should not be allowed near a dog. At the same time the language in the book is so technical that should the misguided, abusive, correction-using trainer want to become enlightened in the ways of operant conditioning, shaping, conditioned reinforcers, NRM’s (huh?), and the like, he won’t get past page two.

Of course, we all know that the only thing two dog trainers can agree on is that the third trainer is wrong.

Snow, finally!

It snowed 10 feet last week. We went to Kirkwood.
