Toyiabe National Forest

Last weekend we finally drove (not biked, mind you) over the infamous Sonora pass to camp in the Toyiabe NF.

We did a 6 mile 1300 foot elevation gain hike on Sunday, which just about killed the dog. 500 feet from the end he lied down in the shade in the middle of the trail and refused to move.

Eventually we were able to coax him to hobble to the campsite, where it turned out that he rubbed off his paw pads from the rocky trails. Now we are looking to get him these:

Butano State Park

One of the few State Parks in CA to allow you to hike with your dog. Only of fire roads, not trails, but we’ll take it.

Starting out. I am stressed because we are on a “trail” not a “fire road.”

We ended up doing about 5 miles of hiking, with about 1/2 mile of it on a trail we were not supposed to be on. But we couldn’t actually figure out the “legal” way to get to Butano Fire Road, at least not without a ridiculous detour.
